Man In The Moon

The STG Custodial Department was hard at work replacing light bulbs in the dome of one of our theatres yesterday:

It takes a daredevil to hang from the ceiling of The Paramount Theatre! But the show must go on...

Report from NYC's APAP Conference

Each January, the Association of Performing Arts Presenters holds a conference in New York City, where over 4,000 performing artists and professionals from 49 states and 30 international countries come together to discuss the state of the industry, exchange ideas and foster new relationships. Our Executive Director Josh LaBelle, our Senior Director of Programming Adam Zacks and our Director of Programming Jason Ferguson represented us this year, taking meetings with other arts presenters in an attempt to continue to bring new and exciting performing arts to our theatres in Seattle (all while enjoying shows and an excellent restaurant or two).

Josh sent a few photos from the conference, along with some thoughts on new Broadway performances and APAP in general - take a peek below!

Above: "Ben Barber, APAP's opening speaker, addressing a capacity crowd in NYC. Despite current economic challenges, the conference attendance is very healthy with more than 4,000 in attendance..."

Above: Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark

"Incredible sets, costumes (masks) and stunts! Bono & The Edge's music is wonderful, all that you might expect from these 2 guys with a few surprises. The question becomes how in the world will this tour in theatres. It's easy to imagine it in Las Vegas and maybe arenas. My fingers are crossed for theatres..."

Above: Million Dollar Quartet

"Totally enjoyable show. Stunning musicianship, a sweet story and a rare night of early rock and roll on Broadway. Musicians' will love this show - it's studio lore gone bananas. The rhythm section blew me away - they make some pretty hard stuff look so simple!"

Above: "STG programming team, Jason Ferguson & Adam Zacks, meeting with some of our favorite people - Pomegranate Arts. Pomegranate represents wonderful artists such as Philip Glass, Dan Zanes, Goran Bregovic and Laurie Anderson."

Above: "STG programming team, after enjoying a dinner with Mark Morris, Shawn Gannon (a former MMDG dancer) and several other presenters around North America. It was a lovely dinner - radicchio salad, scallops with parsnips and roasted squab. The best meal I've had in a long time! The good news...Mark Morris Dance Group will be performing a Seattle premiere next season. Can you guess what that might be?"

Above: "Azar Nafisi, the celebrated Persian author, addresses the Arts Presenters community during the closing plenary. Ms. Nafisi eloquently reminded us all that we are in the business of inspiring imagination and turning it into meaningful reality. A big responsibility. She said so much more. I am hoping Arts Presenters is able to post this speech on their web site ASAP."

We'll keep you posted on any performances that come our way as a result of this year's APAP conference - but is there anything out there you've heard about that you'd like to see in our city? Let us know!
